The grandkids have played with this a bunch but I did not let them eat the gumball candy.
ONLY takes pennies. Dimes too small. Nickels too big.
Plastic front on top, metal otherwise. Metal pole with no toppers or bottoms, just a nut holding each in place. Penny mechanism works fine. Would be nice refurbished or as is for a man's cave / display. See pic for all details.
You are buying as is. Vintage with all the eccentricities, etc of age.

It was just a curiosity for us. We are not collectors and the kids wanted to put the pennies in and guess which color gumball came out and how often. They loved it. Used a lot.
Back when ... got it at an collector's garage sale. Time now to pass it along.
