Signed Art Nouveau Botanical Carved Celadon & Oxblood Gu Studio Pottery Vase 10":
$245.00
Such a beautiful blue-green handmade studio vase, inspired by ancient Chinese traditional celadon and the Gu vessel form.It bears the potter's mark, the seal of either an Asian artist or an Asian-influenced Western artist. The blue-green celadon glaze has such a depth of crystalline translucence above rich crackling and deeper-colored pooling. The carved tropical botanical designs curve gracefully in organic, Art Nouveau style. The unusual small folded handles are textured with stippling. As if that weren't enough, the interior is glazed in oxblood red, a very rare combination that's very challenging for the artist. Celadon and oxblood are colors that hold much meaning in Asian art tradition. But the unusual form: a Gu with a smooth, rounded top and delicately fluted base, seems to differ far enough from Asian traditions to suggest a Western studio.
The vase is10 inches tall and 5 inches wide at the widest part.
It's in excellent condition with no chips or cracks. Irregularities in the rim's edge appear me to be from its manufacture, but you'll want to review the photos.
