Vintage photographic print of the Douglas DC-1, registration X223Y, in Transcontinental & Western Air (TWA) livery. The DC-1 was a singular aircraft in aviation history — only one was ever built (1933), serving as the sole prototype for the entire DC-2/DC-3 lineage that would go on to define modern air travel. After its TWA testing career, the aircraft was sold overseas and ultimately destroyed in a 1940 landing accident in Málaga, Spain, while flying for the Spanish Republican Air Force. No DC-1 survives today in any form — this print depicts an aircraft that no longer exists anywhere in the world.

This is a genuine silver-gelatin photographic print, not a modern digital or glossy reproduction — the reverse bears the "THIS PAPER MANUFACTURED BY KODAK" backstamp used by Kodak from 1972 into the early 1990s. That means this is an official later press-archive print made from the original 1933 negative, rather than a print pulled at the time of the aircraft's brief flying career. It's a period darkroom print on true photographic paper, just not contemporaneous with the event it depicts.
