John F Kennedy VIP Gift Key to the WHITE HOUSE

This "key to the White House" labeled as #4 was personally presented by President John F Kennedy to one of his closest members of staff. Kennedy had 24 of these keys made as VIP gifts to be personally given to a select few members  of his administration. They were individually numbered 1 thru 24. The key offered for sell here is number 4. President Kennedy was copying the ones that were produced by President Harry Truman and given to members of an Orchestra in Kansas City. President Truman copied the ceremonial key to the White House that was given to him upon the completion of the White House renovation. That key is presently in an exhibit at the Harry S. Truman Library. (as pictured in the black and white photograph showing a Truman key).

President Kennedy was known for his gifts of Presidential bling to special supporters, staff, friends, family, and other VIPs. This key is one extremely rare example of such a gift. Usually these gifts were to mark a special event or special occasion: such as when the Cuban missile  crisis ended, President John F. Kennedy commissioned silver calendars from Tiffany & Co. to commemorate the Cuban Missile Crisis and give to his closest advisors. The calendars were made of sterling silver and walnut, and featured the calendar for October 1962, with the days of the crisis in bold. He gave one of these calendar gifts to First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy which is presently displayed at the Kennedy Presidential Library. One of these calendars recently was saleed off for over $31,000.

This rare official White House gift comes complete with it's golden presentation box in excellent condition for being over 60 years old. (See photos for condition).

I purchased this item directly from a well known serious Presidential items collector some time ago. As scarce as this item is, you may never see another one ever offered again. It is an incredible piece of White House history.

I am liquidating parts of my collection now to make ends meet. I am retired on a very limited income and selling parts of my collections to help supplement that small income.
