Hopi pottery has been produced for centuries by Hopi artisans in northeastern Arizona, using a coil-and-scrape method and hand-dug clay. Many pieces, such as this one, feature traditional Sikyatki-inspired designs, painted with mineral and vegetal pigments. These are typically pit-fired, resulting in warm earth tones that highlight the intricate black and red motifs.Adelle Lalo Nampeyo (b.1959) is a daughter of Elva Tewaguna Nampeyo, a granddaughter of Fannie Nampeyo, and a great-granddaughter of Nampeyo of Hano. She is as sister to potters Miriam Nampeyo, Elton Tewaguna and Neva Nampeyo. She learned to make pottery from her mother and grandmother. Adelle is known for her stylistic use of traditional Hopi designs.
