This photograph is a classic Victorian carte de visite (CDV), probably from around the 1870s.The handsome young man is seated with his legs crossed. He is dressed in a standard single-breasted lounge or morning coat with distinctively high, narrow lapels. He is sporting a high, stiff standing collar with a narrow, dark necktie tucked underneath. His hair is neatly parted to the side and slicked down, with subtle, short sideburns extending just to the jawline—a common, clean-cut look for young men of the time.The reverse is blank. There is a small defect at the bottom right of the photograph but, generally, in good condition.
