Union-Castle Line - A beautiful custom-built model of the EDINBURGH CASTLE of 1948 in 1:350th scale.
The model is 27" long and well-detailed with rigging, lifeboats, masts, deck machinery, railings, and even windows and doors inside the Promenade Deck.
The skilled builder was C. Leslie Oursler (1913-1987), a Maryland native who became a maritime artist after retiring from a career in the shipping industry. Oursler's paintings of Chesapeake Bay steamers are prized in museums. But his models are far rarer.
The EDINBURGH CASTLE is crafted out of balsa wood, thread, and Oursler's steady hand for sketching in windows, doors, and skylights. According to his friend Jack Shaum, the lifeboats and a few bits of deck machinery were the only pieces purchased while the rest was made by Oursler.
Excellent condition.
