Crowley's "Vintage" Creamed Cottage Cheese Round Tin. Crowley's Milk Co., Inc., later known as Crowley Foods, was located in Binghamton, NY. This 5lb tin is in remarkably good condition, only minor surface scratches and a minor dent on the lid as shown in the lid 4th image. It is red, beige and blue.The company was founded by J.K. Crowley who purchased a small struggling dairy operation in Poughkeepsie, NY for just $500, in 1904. In order to grow the business he move headquarters to Binghamton in 1915 to be closer to the vast diary farming networks of upstate NY. Crowley's became known for household favorites like milk, sour cream dips and this creamed cottage cheese, even sweeping the Great NYS fair dairy competitions by winning numerous gold and silver metals for product quality. In 1983 that all changed as the company was sold a few times, in 2012 was officially shut down. The building is now known as Crowley Factory Lofts. The product actively continues under the name HP Hood. The tin does not have a zip code which helps to date it before 1963. The 5lbs of cottage cheese originally sold for roughly $1.09 in the 50s.
