I have for sale a memorial token for Charles Sumner who was a lawyer and statesman, and the U.S. Senator from Massachusetts from 1851 till his death in 1874. Sumner was a strong advocate for the abolition of slavery. He was a member of the Whig party 1840-1848, the Free Soil party 1848-1854, the Republican party 1854-1870 and the Liberal Republican party 1870-1872. The token looks to be bronze, it is 7/8 inch in diameter and in a mid-grade circulated condition with a hole. The obverse shows his profile in the center with the years of his birth and death, 1811-1874 and around the rim, it reads, BORN JAN 6. DIED MAR. 11 - CHAS: SUMNER. The reverse shows an eagle in the center. At the rim, it reads, CIVIL RIGH S FOR ALL and 1851 ELEC: SENATOR. Please see over 950 more collectables for sale in my store at TE Collectables.
