An Original Civil War Confederate Veteran "Widows of Confederate Soldiers" Cross of Honor Application Certificate for the Widow of Walter D Addison, listing her husband's service from April, 1861 Army of Northern Virginia until Discharged by the Federal Provost Marshal, April 25, 1865 , and signed by his widow Mrs Mary J Addison.. The Southern Cross of Honor Widow Certificatestates "I lived in the South during the War , and being a Loyal Confederate, suffered all that the other Women suffered".given for her husband Private Walter D Addison, listing his service from April, 1861 Army of Northern Virginia until Discharged by the Federal Provost Marshal, April 25, 1865 , signed "Mrs Mary J Addison" . The 1p 8 x 11" ptd/ink Southern Cross of Honor Certificate dates April 2, 1912, issued at Baltimore, MD, The Certificate is also signed by 3 of Private Addison's comrades "1"st Sergt. J. Hanson Kepler, Co D, 1st Regt VA Vols, CSA", by 17th VA Adjutant WW Zimmerman, (captured at Dinwiddie CH and a POW at the notorious Johnson's Island until he took the Oath 2 months after the War). and by "William Meade Dame,1 Richmond Howitzers, Cabrells Battalion Army Northern Virginia",( also a 17 year old enlistee from Danville, VA,who served 1862 until paroled April 2, 1865, at Farmville, VA). The 3 veterans attest to his service On green paper with minor edge wear, age stains, Overall VG. Comes w service info. Private Addison enlisted at age 17, Alexandria, VA, rejected as being underage, but permitted by Order of General Lee, He was wounded in the fight at Stuart Hospital Richmond, captured and paroled, and died soon after the War.
