With a streamlined body and a 200-horsepower engine that displaced 1,312 cubic inches, the Blitzen Benz was built to do one thing: break land speed records. On April 23, 1911, Bob Burman did just that when he drove a Blitzen Benz at an average of 141.732 miles per hour at Daytona Beach, Florida. Burman's record stood until 1919.Carlo Demand was an accomplished German artist and prolific illustrator. Motorsports artists as accomplished as Peter Helck were impressed by Demand's skill. Helck wrote about Demand: "...the very best of these works are beyond my skills. There are a dozen in the [print] set which amaze me and I believe [one of them] to be just about the finest racing bit of art I have ever seen."As published in the book, Carlo Demand: In Motion and Color.
