This is an authentic late 19th-century Victorian shell-encrusted trinket box, a lovely example of period seaside folk art. The exterior features a dense mosaic of natural marine shells, highlighted by a large, spotted tiger cowrie centerpiece on the lid and detailed bivalve and marginella shell mosaic work along the sides. Original wooden bun feet. 7 1/2 x 4 1/2 x 2.75Rarely found intact, the interior retains its original lid mirror and plush velvet ring cushion. Age appropriate wear.Original fabric hinge has worn away over time, leaving the lid completely detached from the base. It still sits flush and perfectly snug on top for display or can easily be re-hinged by a collector.One broken bivalve shell on the front panel. It measures 7 1/2 x 4 1/2 x 2.75
Rarely found intact, the interior retains its original lid mirror and plush velvet ring cushion.
**Condition Notes (As-Is):**
* **Detached Lid:** The original fabric hinge has worn away over time, leaving the lid completely detached from the base. It still sits flush and perfectly snug on top for display or can easily be re-hinged by a collector.
* **Shell Wear:** There is one broken bivalve shell on the front panel, along with minor, age-appropriate wear to the antique adhesive. The mirror is bright and shiny, but does have some wear on the silver finish backing.
** there is the expected wear to the red laquer finish
It's still a charming piece, that could easily be perfected with a little restoration.
