Antique Victorian Trade Cards J & P Coats Thread Lot of 7 Lithographs SewingFishing theme: 4 1/2 inches wide x 3 1/8 inches long
Trade cards were mounted in an album at one time, and the backs of the cards have damage from when they were removed.
1. J & P Coats Victorian trade card, featuring a man fly-fishing while a woman sews nearby. The card depicts a scenic, pastoral scene with a man in traditional Victorian attire fishing in a stream, accompanied by a woman seated on a bank sewing. The back of the card has an 1880 calendar with advertisement for best six cord spool cotton.
2. White, Black, & Colors for hand & machine J & P Coats Victorian trade card to advertise sewing thread. The card features the work of renowned children's illustrator Kate Greenaway. The scene depicts two young girls standing near a garden gate and was used for the nursery rhyme Hark! Hark! The dogs to bark! A local retailers stamp on bottom corner of card reads Sisson Bro's & Welden Binghamton N.Y.
3. White, Black, & Colors for hand & machine J & P Coats Victorian trade card to advertise sewing thread. The card features the work of renowned children's illustrator Kate Greenaway. Two young girls in period clothing play on a seesaw made of a simple wooden board on a fence. The lower portion reads See-Saw-Jack in the Hedge, which is the way to London Bridge. A local retailers stamp on bottom corner of card reads From Sisson Bro's & Welden Binghamton N.Y.
4 & 5. Two copies of choose the best shade Victorian trade card for J & P Coats thread. The back reads Compliments of J & P Coats, who request special examination of the new colors of the season expressly adapted to machine sewing. A Victorian couple relaxes on a sandy beach under a large, vibrant, striped umbrella, both are dressed in Victorian attire and looking longingly into each other's eyes. The background shows a choppy sea with a sailboat and another couple standing near the water with a red umbrella.
6. 1880s Victorian trade card advertising J & P Coats Six Cord Thread. Card has a blonde baby with rosy cheeks wearing a lace-collared shirt, holding and playfully biting down on a gold-capped spool of thread. The illustration is accented with red and purple flowers alongside soft green foliage. Bottom left reads Series of Five No. 3 Preperation.
7. Victorian trade card advertising J & P Coats thread. The illustration features four children dressed in 19th century attire playing on a seesaw outdoors. The seesaw is balanced on top of a large, oversized wooden spool of thread.
