This antique Italian cutwork linen and figural needle lace boudoir pillow sham from c. 1900 is a unique and elegant addition to any bedroom. The narrative scene beautifully depicts classical figures, a winged flying cherub (putti), and a spirited leaping horse or hound. The figures are rendered with tightly packed buttonhole stitches to create clean, dense silhouettes that dramatically pop against a colored insert.Framing the central vignette is a wide, elaborate border of classic Italian cutwork embroidery (Punto Tagliato). The sheer linen fabric is embellished with scrolling foliate designs and satin-stitched floral motifs, with the open negative spaces meticulously cleared away and secured by buttonholed bars (brides).
