This is a compelling, authentic 19th-century ninth-plate cased portrait photograph capturing a handsome young man or teen boy dressed in a dark buttoned jacket and a white collar shirt. The antique image is beautifully framed by an uncommon, ornately stamped gold-tone brass mat featuring a stylized scalloped or ruffled interior aperture edge behind its protective glass window. The inner lid houses a deeply embossed plush velvet pad displaying a decorative classical oval cartouche design motif. The wood-framed protective case retains its original brass wire hook-and-eye closure latch hardware. The two halves of the wooden case are completely disconnected and separated at the spine hinge, displaying age-appropriate perimeter edge rubbing, minor paper/leather peeling, and spots of exposed wood underneath.
