Beautiful set of six cocktail seafood forks made by International Silver Company for the Palace Hotel San Francisco.

Top Logo with intertwined PH. This is the center of the famed double eagle crest of the Palace Hotel

Forks are in the GRECIAN pattern originally 1913 by International Silver and Rogers & Bro.

Marked International Silver Co.

Each fork measures 6”.

In beautiful condition with minimal wear. One fork has slight nick on tines.

Meriden Britannia Co. which beginning in 1862 continued the production of "1847 Rogers Bros", are all of the concerns in which the three original brothers have been connected and at various times have become part of the lnternational Silver Co. All three of the partners, William, Asa and Simeon, were in the employ of the Meriden Britannia Co. when they died.

The Palace Hotel in San Francisco opened on October 2, 1875, as the largest and most luxurious hotel in the Western United States.

The Original 1875 Hotel

* Built by visionary banker William Chapman Ralston, the 755-room hotel featured grand carriage entrances and innovative "rising rooms" (hydraulic elevators).

* It quickly became a premier social and political hub in San Francisco.

The 1906 Disaster and 1909 Rebuild

* The great 1906 San Francisco earthquake and subsequent fires destroyed the original building, leaving only its burned-out steel superstructure.

* A completely rebuilt, grander Palace Hotel reopened in December 1909, featuring the world-famous Garden Court with its massive glass dome and Italian marble columns.

Landmark Events and Modern Era

* In 1919, President Woodrow Wilson gave a famous speech in the Garden Court supporting the League of Nations.

* The hotel hosted a major celebratory banquet for the founding sessions of the United Nations in 1945.

*

* Following major restorations in the late 20th century and acquisitions by Marriott, the hotel continues to operate as a historic luxury landmark downtown.
