Description
A fabulous set of four rare vintage Shelley square dessert or bread plates, dating to the 1930s Art Deco era. Rather than a matched set, each plate showcases its own distinctive hand-painted floral design, making this a marvelous little sampler of Shelley artistry.
The collection includes lilacs, violets, poppies, hydrangea-like florals, and scenic botanical decoration, with colorful blue, pink, and green edging. The square shapes and softly clipped corners are quintessentially Art Deco, while the loose painterly florals keep each plate wonderfully individual.
The poppy plate was made for Lawley's, adding another interesting collector detail to the group. Rare, colorful, and delightfully mismatched, these would be gorgeous displayed together or used for a wedding, Mother's Day gift, garden party, or Bridgerton-inspired table.
