Archival Collector's Find: 1966 Hong Horizons Folk Art Hen Bank Presenting a magnificent, investment-grade piece of mid-century decorative art: an authentic 1966 Hong Horizons Ceramic Hen Coin Bank, masterfully crafted in Japan during the peak of the post-war American folk-art movement. This stunning artifact represents an exceptional intersection of mid-century whimsical utility and master-level clay craftsmanship.
Design & ArtistryConstructed from thick, high-density earthenware, this piece features a heavy sand-pottery texture that gives it a substantial, organic heft. The piece is entirely double-sided, featuring a brilliantly mirrored, hand-painted layout. Vibrant pink fan-shaped plumage motifs are balanced alongside striking yellow and teal-blue country blossoms, framed against a beautifully stippled, natural terracotta-toned base glaze.
Archival Condition ReportThis nearly 60-year-old museum-quality specimen survives in pristine vintage condition, showing no apparent chips, hairline fractures, or surface abrasions. The unglazed bottom clay perimeter edge rests entirely flat with immaculate margins. Crucially for discerning collectors, the underside retains its pristine, stamped copyright mark (© 1966 Hong Horizons Patent Pending) alongside a beautifully preserved remnant of the original red foil Japan export sticker—a rare find for pottery pieces of this era.
