Original April 24, 1939 letter from The Alaska Sportsman, Ketchikan, Alaska, the official organ of the Alaska Sportsmen's Association. The sheet measures approximately 8.5 x 11 inches. This is a particularly interesting piece of pre-statehood Alaska publishing and literary correspondence, written to Miss Ida Klein of 3222 Lowell Blvd., Denver, Colorado, and signed by Emerson F. Tobin, Editor.

The letter thanks Ida Klein for submitting three poems to the publication. Tobin states that the staff had read and liked all three, "particularly the one entitled, 'An Eskimo Romance.'" He then proposes an unusual commercial use for the poem: turning it into an illustrated postcard, with drawings surrounding the poem, which could be produced for sale to tourists. Tobin asks whether Klein would permit the magazine's artist to develop a design and what payment she would expect for such use.

This makes the letter more interesting than routine business correspondence, documenting the relationship between an Alaska publication, a contributing writer, and the development of Alaska tourist souvenir material during the territorial period.

The attractive two-color letterhead reads "The Alaska Sportsman — Official Organ of the Alaska Sportsmen's Association" and notes that it was published monthly in the Territory of Alaska, with circulation in the United States, Territory of Alaska, and Canada. It features sporting/wildlife imagery and the association emblem.

Signed in ink by Emerson F. Tobin, Editor. The letter retains its original mailing folds and shows expected age toning, handling wear, small edge imperfections, and other minor signs of age. The reverse shows normal type/printing show-through. Please examine photographs closely for condition.

An appealing piece for collectors of Alaska Territory history, Ketchikan ephemera, sporting publications, literary correspondence, poetry, tourism history, postcards, and Alaska Sportsman material, as well as genealogical researchers interested in Ida Klein or Emerson F. Tobin.

Authentic period piece related to family, historyor local heritage - well-suited for historical collections, genealogical /genealogy research, or museum acquisition.Vintage or Antique.
