If you're an uncompromising collector of antique technology, make sure to check out all my listings after you look at this one. I don't think you'll find a better, broader or more balanced assortment of technical antiques anywhere -- hundreds of listings each year, almost all of them featuring eye-popping "gee whiz" gadgetry in exceptional original condition. And don't forget, you can clickthis linkto quickly add and then save me to your favorite seller list and will automatically send you updates when I putsimilar new listings online. Here's a 1922 Tecla Type 50-D Detector Panel and its matching Tecla Type 50-A amplifier. Both components were built and sold in Detroit by wireless radio pioneer Thomas Clark, among the earliest manufacturers of radio gear -- some of it dating back to the first few years of the century.
I've seen the 50-D radio surface twice over the past 30 years. I've never seen another example of the amp. Isuspect this is the only surviving matched pair.
Condition is very good, and both components work. However, they require separate power supplies (I'm not sure why, but when I tried to power both with a single ARBEIII, they wouldn't work.)
Detector panel has a few loose turns on the secondary tuning coil, but the tuner still does a decent job of pulling in strong local stations.
Amplifier works well, plays loud and clear. Both AF transformers are original, and both are good.
Everything appears to be original, including the leatherette covering on the cabinets.
All tubes are brass base 201-A's, and all of them are good.
The Detector panel was designed to be used with an internal 22volt panel (that's what the bracket is for). Wires were supposed to be run from the battery to the fahnestock clips on the tube socket. When I ship the pair out to you, I'll include a pair of vintage style wires that run from the clips to the outside of the radio so that you can use the Detector panel with a modern power supply rather than an onboard 22 volt battery.
Remarkably, both components retain not only their original covers and their original carrying handles, but also their original locks and keys, as well as their original lid latches. This is quite a pair, let me tell you. I can't pretty much assure you that you'll never see their equal. Each component measures approximately 12" wide by 10" high by 7 1/2" deep.Shipping weight, properly packed, will be about 30 lb.
I'm one of 's best known, most highly regarded sellers of antique radios, and I specialize in radios from the 1920's.I've been sellingand shippingthem for more than 25 years. When you purchase an antique radio from me, you'll receive a radio that arrives safely because it's been carefully packed (byme, not by some well-intentioned but nonetheless confounded, doe-eyed teenager working at the UPS store who wouldn't know a radio from a radiator), Sure, you can probably get a lower price from Joe and Janet Barn-Find, but when your "bargain" arrives broken, and without any hint of how you might be able to put it back together, you'll realize that you really do get exactly what you pay for.
