Vintage Carson Statesmetal Pewter Lidded Sugar Bowl featuring an embossed dairy cow on the front lidThis piece was made by the Carson Casting Company (later known as Carson Industries), which was famously based out of Freeport, Pennsylvania. While often referred to by collectors simply as "pewter", Carson pieces are typically made of Statesmetal (specifically Statesmetal XIII). This is a proprietary, non-toxic aluminum-based alloy developed to mimic the heavy look, rustic patina, and feel of traditional colonial-style pewter without using lead. It is highly durable and food-safe.This specific country/farmhouse cow motif style was popularized and manufactured during the 1970s and 1980s.
