This is a beautiful and exquisitely renderedAntique Vintage Mid Century Modern Abstract Cubist Oil Painting on Masonite, by San Diego modernist painter Dordee Ogren (? - 2009.) This work depicts a spectacular and colorful abstract scene, with cubistic blocks of pigment creating an image reminiscent of an ornate stained-glass window or mosaic. Signed: "Ogren" in the lower right. I could not find much information about this artist aside from her public obituary, and a few examples of her artwork online. Perhaps you know more about her or her work? This piece approximately dates to the 1950's. Approximately 27 x 34 inches (including frame.) Actual artwork is approximately 22 x 29 inches. Good condition for age, with several spots of light paint loss (please see photos.) Original period frame has some light scuffing and edge wear. This amazing Mid Century artwork would be the highlight of any tasteful home or business setting. Acquired from a deceased estate in Pasadena, California. About the Artist:
DORDEE OGRENOGREN, DORDEE Dorothy Ogren, widow of Cmdr. Edwin Ogren, passed away on Monday, October 5, 2009, at Hospice of the Bluegrass Care Center in Lexington, KY. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Susan and David Kidder; three grandchildren, Sharon Kidder, Bethany Duncan, and Brian Kidder, and a great-grandson, Jesse Duncan. Dordee, as she liked to be called, was an accomplished watercolor artist and until recently was very active in the San Diego Watercolor Society. She and her late husband were Pearl Harbor survivors, having met and married in Hawaii shortly after the attack. After her husband's death, she moved in with her daughter, eventually moving with them from San Diego to Lexington, KY and from there to a small farm just outside Lexington. She loved the green, the trees on the horizon, and the warm evening sun casting shadows on the barn. Her artist's eye truly app-reciated the beauty she saw around her. Informal services will take place on Friday, October 23rd, at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery at 9:00 a.m., and she will subsequently be inurned in the same niche as her husband. In lieu of flowers, donations to the San Diego Watercolor Society, 2825 Dewey Road Suite 105, San Deigo 92106 or to a local Hospice Care organization would be appreciated.
