Nusach Ashkenaz /

Hebrew

Excellent overall condition. Prior ownership label with a handwritten Hebrew inscription is affixed to the rear pastedown. Otherwise exceptionally well preserved, with a firm binding, clean pages, and only light exterior rubbing and handling wear. The black textured flexible hardcover remains attractive, with an embossed Tablets of the Law motif to the front and Hebrew “סדור” panel on the spine.

Compact Hebrew prayer book containing the prayers and supplications arranged according to the Ashkenaz rite, together with additional prayers, Hoshanot, Torah readings, Psalms and related material. The contents extend beyond the regular daily and Sabbath services. Of particular interest is the inclusion of the Prayer for the Welfare of the State of Israel, reflecting the distinctly Israeli character of this edition. Printed in Israel in 1963 by Sinai of Tel Aviv. The compact format and durable flexible binding were designed for practical personal use.

An appealing early-state-of-Israel siddur combining traditional Ashkenaz liturgy with prayers associated with the modern State of Israel. Sinai was a prolific Israeli publisher of Hebrew Bibles, prayer books and Judaica, and surviving period examples appear in a variety of decorative and utilitarian bindings. This 1963 edition makes an attractive piece of vintage Israeli Judaica as well as a usable Hebrew prayer book.
