Idris Elba Breaks Speed Record in a Bentley
British actor, Idris Elba, best known for his role as drug lord and aspiring businessman Russell “Stringer” Bell in the HBO series The Wire broke a 90-year United Kingdom “flying mile” speed record last Sunday bringing a whole new meaning to “Sunday morning drive”.
Elba averaged 180.4 miles per hour in a Bentley Continental GT Speed and hit a top speed of 186.4 miles per hour at the second marker. This breaks the last flying mile record in the U.K. that was set back in 1927 by motor racing journalist Sir Malcolm Campbell at 174.2 miles per hour at the second marker in a specially built Napier-Campbell Blue Bird race car.
The record run was filmed for a new Discovery Channel series, Idris Elba: No Limits, which will air sometime this July.
