Everything You Need To Know About Chumlee

People often wonder how Chumlee became a part of the World Famous Gold & Silver Pawn Shop. The shop is featured on the History Channel’s reality show, Pawn Stars, which is a family store owned by Richard Harrison and his son Rick. Chumlee isn’t related to the family by blood, but he has certainly become a part of the family over the years. The customer service pro is an old friend of Rick’s son, Corey, and they have known each other well since childhood.
Chumlee is formally known as Austin Russell. He has known the Harrison family since childhood, and he is known for his big heart. Austin was given the nickname Chumlee in elementary school in reference to a walrus cartoon character on the 1960s show Tennessee Tuxedo.
Despite his crazy name and sometimes radical appearance, Chumlee is without a doubt the nicest person on the show. He is often the first to handle customers because of his empathy and excellent communication skills. On the flip side, he is not considered the best businessman or decision maker. In fact, Chumlee is known to get on Rick’s nerves because he often messes up deals. He may not have the best skills in the shop, but he has taken his expertise into another business venture which includes his own line of shirts and novelty items.
