50 Cent is one of the leading artists in the rap and hip-hop industry. Not only is he one of the most profitable rappers, but he also continues to be one of the most popular. Formally known as Curtis James Jackson III, 50 Cent was born and raised in Queens, New York. His mother’s accidental death as a child defined his youth. 50 Cent lived with his grandparents but still got into trouble on the streets during his teen years. Other defining moments of his early adulthood that would later inspire his career include the birth of his son, as well as surviving a targeted gun shooting outside of his grandmother’s home.
During his early 20s, he found his penchant for rap music and started recording mix tapes. Eminem discovered 50 Cent in 2002 and he subsequently signed with Interscope Records.
