Unique American Astronomical Regulator Clock by the inventor of the phonograph:
Unique #1 of 1 Dial signed " Joseph Broich City of New York Anno 1901 " This German immigrant set up a machining laboratory in New York City in the 1890's and was awarded several patents including the phonograph !which he sold to Thomas Edison...a talented prototype maker he workedfor several well known inventors all the way up to Hammond of Massachusetts for whom he built "the electric dog" which eventually became the guidance system of torpedoes for the Navy. Seeing he operated a sophisticated laboratory he needed a master clock so unconstrained by he developed this outstanding regulator incorporating several unorthodox features...Fully jeweled and with a unique compensating pendulum this clock kept better than one second a month....I have copies of his patents but they can be read on the internet. This Important American Clock is significant in so many ways, showcasing how the early immigrants to the US built this country, the melting pot of New York City and the celebration of German precision... ideally sold or gifted to the Smithsonian this important Regulator Timepiece is a true part of American Industrial History6178349354 one look at the photos is enough to convey the unique precision and industrial artistry that was possessed by this remarkable inventor and American Genius !
