Complete Set of 2000 Republican National Convention (GOP) Credentials / Press Passes - Philadelphia, PA
This is acomplete set of press credentials(admittance tickets for members of the press) covering the 2000 Republican National Convention in Philadelphia. There isone credential / ticket for each of the 5 convention sessions(Monday afternoon, and Monday through Thursday evenings). These credentials were Media Messenger credentials, meaning they were for members of press teams that did not require a seat, but did require access to the convention hall and all media workspaces. The convention was held at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia (at the time, it was known as the First Union Center), where the Philadelphia 76ers and Flyers play their home games (South Philly).
Also included is an original lanyard from the convention. This lanyard was sponsored by Comcast (owner of Xfinity and NBC, and also the owner of the Wells Fargo Center where the convention was held). Every attendee (delegates, party officials, spectators, VIPs, and members of the press) were given one of these lanyards to use to wear their credentials around their neck during the convention.
Convention credentials are required for anyone attending the convention, and are worn around the neck on a lanyard or string. Most convention attendees take the credentials home with them as a memento of attending the event.
At the 2000 convention, President George W. Bush was nominated for his first term in office, which he ultimately won. He ran in the general election against Al Gore. The convention was held from July 31st through August 3, 2000. The GOP chose to hold the convention in Philadelphia because it is the birthplace of America (Independence Hall) and because Pennsylvania was seen as a \"winnable\" state for George W. Bush.
