Everything You Need To Know About Calvin Klein

Calvin Klein is the owner of his highly successful fashion company, Calvin Klein, Inc. The fashion world is a tough one, and most designers make their break and then fall off the bandwagon after short-term successes. However, Calvin Klein has managed to keep his brand mainstream since his company’s official launch in 1968.
Fashion evolves over the years, and it’s no surprise that Calvin Klein, Inc. has had its own major transitions. The company first started as a coat store in a New York City hotel, which eventually led to a variety of women’s and men’s fashion. Today the company also sells perfumes and jewelry, but Calvin Klein Inc. perhaps hit its peak in 1974 with its signature ultra-tight jeans.
Calvin Klein won an award from the Council of Fashion Designers of American (CFDA) in 1974–this was the first CFDA award given to a designer of clothing for both genders. In 2002, he sold his company to Philips Van Heusen Corporation as a way to obtain his own retirement from his work. Still, the Calvin Klein remains its own entity and the original founder still acts as an advisor during some of the major creative processes.
Calvin Klein’s professional life has undoubtedly been rich in fashion, but his personal life hasn’t been so glamorous at times. Along with two divorces, his daughter Marci was kidnapped and held at ransom in 1978. She survived and the culprits were arrested.
